ABOUT MEHey y'all! My name is Alicia Torres and I am so excited to share my adventure with you all! I am so humbled and beyond grateful to have this opportunity to serve the Lord through Farm of the Child - La Finca del Niño - in Trujillo, Honduras for a time commitment of at least 15 months. I created this website to keep you all up-to-date on some of my experiences at the Farm. I've never had a blog before so please be patient with me and I hope you enjoy the journey!
In June, I will be graduating from the beautiful University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) with a B.A. in Mathematics with a Concentration in High School Teaching and a minor in Educational Studies. During my time at UCSB, I came to encounter the Lord in a radical way through prayer and wonderful friendships. As I fell in love with Jesus, I felt the call to serve Him in a radical way after graduating. This calling lead to my discovery of Farm of the Child at a SEEK conference in Indianapolis in 2019. I was immediately drawn to La Finca and I knew that if Jesus wanted me to serve Him in this way, He would open all the doors to make it possible. Here we are now, awaiting the adventure of a lifetime and all I can say is PRAISE GOD! Here we go!!
LA FINCA HISTORY"Motivated by a love for Christ and the desire to follow God's will, founders Vincent and Zulena Pescatore founded the first Farm of the Child in the remote rainforests of El Peten, Guatemala in 1987. After establishing an orphanage, clinic, and school, Vincent & Zulena were called to then begin an orphanage in Honduras. In 1993, they began construction of Finca del Niño, in the northern coast of Honduras outside the town of Trujillo. Shortly thereafter, Vincent Pescatore died in a tragic plane crash in the mountains near the Finca del Niño.
Today, his vision and this beautiful mission continues thanks to the grace of God, a partnership with the Central American Order of Franciscan Sisters, international missionaries, the love of Zulena and the Pescatore family, and that of our devoted Board members & employees."
MISSION STATEMENT"Farm of the Child USA is a Catholic, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports Finca del Niño HONDURAS, a non-profit mission modeled on the Holy Family that educates, protects, and promotes healing and spiritual formation for orphaned and abandoned children, and families in the local community."
